Fireside Chat: The History of Hardware Stores in Lake Township

Several times a year the Lake Township Historical Society (LTHS) presents Fireside Chats to residents and any other interested persons in the area. These chats feature persons, places or things pertaining to the history of the township.

On Thursday, April 25th, LTHS will present the HISTORY of the HARDWARE STORES in LAKE TOWNSHIP at GentleBrook Centre (the former Hartville Hardware building).

From the 1800s until present date the Historical Society has found 9 hardware stores in Hartville and surrounding Lake Township! Coming from as far as Pennsylvania and Washington DC, persons that owned or had family that worked in the stores will be sharing their memories, pictures, artifacts, and memorabilia.

The LTHS will also be drawing the winners of their spring raffle. Prizes include a beautiful handmade quilt, a bucket of items from the Hartville Hardware with a $50.00 gift certificate, a night at Salt Fork Lodge, 18 holes of golf for 4 with carts from “The Raintree Country Club” and a gift certificate from “Sunrise Massage Therapy Services“.  Tickets are $5.00 each.

The event will be held on:
Thursday, April 25th  7:00 PM
Gentle Brooke Centre
940 West Maple Street in Hartville.

Admission is free and refreshments will be served.

Lake Township Historical Society’s main goal is to preserve the past for future generations. They have renovated and maintain a one room schoolhouse that stands at the corner of King Church and Lake Center Streets near Lake High School and also run and maintain a Museum in Greentown on Myers street. Both buildings have Open Houses on Sundays throughout the summer.  A schedule can be viewed on the LTHS website.
