The story of how a poor farm boy from Greentown, Ohio, became one of America’s most successful agricultural equipment manufacturers and a close friend and financial backer to five American presidents. In 1859, just prior to the Civil War, Cornelius Aultman became one of only 300 millionaires in America. In 1868, Mr. Aultman built a grand mansion of 14 acres on North Market Avenue (Canton’s first tourist attraction), now the site of Canton’s Civic and Cultural Centers. The C. Aultman & Co. (agricultural equipment) was Canton’s largest employer and helped make Stark County known as “The Reaper Capital of the World” shortly after the Civil War.
