Lake Township Historical Society’s Historical Home Tour

Lake Township Historical Society’s Historical Home Tour

Six memorable Lake Township homes will be open to visitors during the Lake Township Historical Society’s upcoming 2016 Historical Home Tour on Sunday, June 26 from 12-5pm.

The Historic Miller Home
Kelly and Jeff Carpenter have been renovating the 1840 John or Lewis Miller house in Greentown since they purchased it in 2013. The brick house sits just a few feet from the IMGP6806 edge of the road. They have graciously agreed to open their home so that we can get a glimpse inside the house some call the “Edison” house. Many rumors abound about this home which is listed on the National Register, and you may learn which ones are true during the tour.  Ample parking is available around Greentown square.

Riverside Dairy

Debbie and Bob McNamara are hosting an open house at their 1916 brick home at 2986 Canton Road. The house was originally the Riverside Dairy and the Riverside Golf McNamara House on Canton RoadCourse was to the north. A stake is located on the property marking the far southern corner of the Western Reserve, the land granted to Connecticut by King Charles II in 1662. The dairy’s milk house will be open for touring. The McNamaras will be serving Nathan’s Famous hot dogs whose anniversary date is the same as their house. [1]

1831 Log Construction Home

Gail and Dale Hartzell’s charming home and property on Mogadore Avenue will be open to Hazlett House on Mogadore Aveexplore. The original log house is filled with antiques and curios. The original 1817 deed included a Land Patent signed by President James Monroe to Samuel Bachtel. In 1831 David Shriver bought the property and built a one and one-half story log cabin. In 1852 he built a grist mill on the north bank of the Tuscarawas River. [1]

Myers Family and Yoder Farms
The Myers family farm is located on Lake O’Pines St. and is adjacent to the Yoder property on Market Ave. A path connects the two properties so visitors only need park at one. Farm style transportation will be available to take you back and forth.  Martha and Lee Yoder’s home and farm at 9388 Market Ave. are on the tour along with the Myers farm at 1154 Lake O’Pines St. owned by Donna Noble.

Betty and Ben Troyer
Drive the 3/8 mile long lane at 1554 Lake Center St. NW to the home of Ben and Betty Troyer. You will enjoy the beautiful landscaping and home decorations created by Betty and Ben. The lovely setting and home will add to your day’s enjoyment.
