Thanks to Shelley Sprang, Executive Director at Pegasus Farm, for sharing the exciting happenings along the Northeast Ohio Lavender Trail for 2021. In addition to U-Pick and photo opportunities, you’ll also find yoga, festivals, markets, and more at these four Northeast Ohio farms.
Fields of lavender abound at four locations known as the Northeast Ohio Lavender Trail. Popular for its soothing, calming, aromatic qualities, a day trip through these lavender fields has relaxation built right in. Multiple varieties of lavender are found at each location along the Trail. While en route, you may just discover more gems Northeast Ohio has to offer!
Maize Valley
Start your day with lunch and lavender at Maize Valley, located minutes east of historic Downtown Hartville. Enjoy lunch or dinner at their winery/brewery before or after picking your fresh lavender. The fields at Maize Valley are open Monday – Saturday from noon – 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. – 8 p.m weather permitting. Admission to the field is $5 per adult and $3 for children. Stop at the Market first to purchase your Lavender Ticket when you arrive, then enjoy the three-minute walk out to the lavender field, following the signs. You can take pictures with your cell phone, (professional photographers please follow Maize Valley policies), or cut bundles of lavender for $10 each.
Maize Valley will also be hosting two Lavender Festivals featuring Heart and Home Marketplace on July 3rd and 11th. For additional information visit their website or follow Farmer Bill’s daily and entertaining postings on their Facebook page. If you’re lucky, you may run into Farmer Bill out in the fields caring for these plants, or getting ready for sunflowers and pumpkins!
Pegasus Farm
You’re next stop is just a minute east up State Route 619 to Pegasus Farm Country Store and Gardens to see three varieties of lavender plants cared for and harvested by Horticulture Manager Rudy Moyer and the Farm’s Wings participants. This nonprofit, therapeutic equestrian center employs adults with disabilities not only in their garden, but in their Country Store, and their barns. You’ll see the lavender fields looking hardy and healthy just beyond the Farm’s Country Store.
Pick your own bundles of lavender here starting mid-June during store hours Monday-Friday from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m., and Saturday 9.a.m. – 4 p.m. Please check their Facebook page as the weather warms up!
Stop in the store first to get your bouquet “sizer” and a pair of scissors; you-cut will be available until all the lavender is picked. Afterward stop back at the store to return your scissors and pay. The Country Store offers produce from the garden, summer treats, local vendors, bulk foods, and gifts. The Farm will also hold a Blueberry Festival on property July 24th . Visit their website for more info. All proceeds benefit the mission of Pegasus Farm.
Sandy Creek Ventures
The next stop on the Lavender Trail is Sandy Creek Ventures Farm, located in East Canton, Ohio. Their website chronicles their lavender story, as well as the history of the farm. Generations of the same family lovingly continue to operate this historic farm. When you visit, be sure to admire the barn built in 1875, and the farm house built in 1886.
You must reserve a spot via their Facebook page in advance to pick in their fields beginning June 20th. In addition to picking lavender, they also offer guided meditation, yoga at sunset, and scheduled personal time in the field. Please visit their website or Facebook page for all the details.
Lavender Trails
Your final stop on the Northeast Ohio Lavender Trail is aptly named Lavender Trails. The newest farm to join the trail is located in Orrville, Ohio and began their venture in 2018. They chose a former industrial site in the Orrville Industrial Park for their 64-row lavender field. This unique location is what they call a “brownfield.”
Lavender Trails is open daily beginning June 25th until late July. Bring your camera for amazing photo opps! They are also hosting two vendor Sundays with food trucks and crafter tables, held July 11th and 18th . There is a $5 admission fee. A portion of this fee supports The Upside of Downs.
As you plan your aromatic day trip, be sure to stop at local eateries, shops, and ice cream stores along the way!
